The Unemployment Crisis

So I am sure everyone has heard about and has been talking about the many issues revolving around the unemployment crisis including all the extensions that have been implemented. There has been a fair amount of controversy and many different view points. I figured I would share my opinion on the topic.

Before I get into it, let me say that it is truly ashame that so many Americans are out of work and that our economy is currently in a such a recessed state. However; that would be another post all of it own, I want to focus on just the employment aspect in this post. So lets get right into it, I do not think that we should keep give extensions for unemployment benefits! Now I know right away some of you are going to say, well that is a horrible thing to say, don't you care about all the people without jobs? Of course I do, so let me give you my reasoning. 

First, it is not the governments job to support all of the citizens. Now I don't want to get on a rabbit trail, but to many people these days just want the government to take care of all the problems in this country and that is not the way it works. We each need to take personal responsibility to do our part. That being said the national deficit is WAY TO LARGE already why are we asking to go deeper in the whole to keep paying more unemployment. Now don't get me wrong I do not have a problem with unemployment benefits in general, but I think we need to have more regulation on how liberally we keep handing them out, and when your time allowance is up that it your done, no extensions.

Secondly, to expand upon the first, if we keep giving out free money what is the incentive to go find a job? Again let me stop you before you go off on a rant, I know there are people out there really trying hard to find a job and they would rather be working then collecting unemployment. Realistically; however the majority of people sadly to say are going to keep collecting their free money as long as they can. There are many jobs out there but people are far to picky, I understand it is hard to accept less money than you were making before and that you may not want to work a different type of job than you ever have, but you need to do what you have to do, it is not the governments job to take care of you!

So in closing I want to propose that if we would stop handing out free money and people would realize they need to support themselves that in time we would see the economy turning around. We would stop adding to the national debt and we would start stimulating the industries that are looking for more employees. Yes we may have to scale back a little for awhile, but that happens sometimes. At the end of the day everyone will be much better off by supporting themselves and not expecting so much from everyone else.
